Founded in 2020 by Pemphero Grey Mafuta in response to the global mental health crisis, 21st Generation is an award-winning NGO based in Lilongwe, Malawi. We combat the lack of mental health awareness affecting 75% of Malawians through comprehensive youth empowerment, digital innovation, and community-based mental health initiatives.

We are the 21st GEN — Founded by Pemphero Grey Mafuta in 2020 in response to the escalating global mental health crisis. Our mission is to combat the staggering lack of mental health awareness, resources, and support affecting 75% of the Malawian population through comprehensive youth empowerment and digital innovation.
With only 0.3% of facilities providing mental health care in Malawi (mostly in urban areas), we use technology, storytelling, creative expression, and strategic partnerships to make mental health education accessible and inclusive for all communities, especially underserved youth.
